Peacefully passed away on Saturday morning, August 15th,2009, at the age of 83 after a short stay at Mabie Southside Skilled Nursing Facility in Hollister. She is survived by her three children, Richard, Stephen, and Douglas, her daughter-in-law Christine, her brother Louis, and her beloved grandchildren James and Thomas.
Emilie was born in San Jose, raised in Hollister, and graduated from San Benito High School in 1943. She received a bachelors degree from Mills College and a teaching credential from San Jose State. She started and operated a successful retail business in San Diego for a number of years, but her admitted greatest accomplishment was being grandmother to James and Thomas. She returned to Hollister from San Diego to help after the birth of her second grandson and never went back. She had the blessed opportunity to be a large part of her grandson’s lives from the time they were in diapers to helping with their prom tuxedos.
Never one to by shy about expressing her strong opinions, no matter where she happened to be, Emilie nevertheless had a kind and loving heart. She felt very close to her longtime friends, all the special people she had come to know and love like family over the years at the Pacheco Pass ranch, and her extended family on both the Scaglione and Cribari sides. As she got older and was not able to travel much, a call or visit from those close to her was a very special moment that she cherished.
In honoring Emilie’s request, a small family service was held on August 21st, 2009, at Sacred Heart Church in Hollister. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Foundation for Accelerated Vascular Research at www.favresearch.org or your favorite charity. Condolences may be sent to www.grunnagle.com.
