Polish your garlic press and start practicing mincing Gilroy’s aromatic tenant because the 34th Great Garlic Cook-Off is now accepting recipes.

The amateur cooking competition July 28 is a stellar showcase for local talent and a featured event at the Gilroy Garlic Festival July 27- 29 at Christmas Hill Park.

Eight finalists will be chosen to appear on stage to cook off, and original recipes must include a minimum of six cloves of fresh garlic or three teaspoons of chopped or minced garlic. Recipes will be prepared, plated and served to a panel of six judges in two hours at the Great Garlic Cook-Off.

Recipes can be submitted through May 1 to Gilroy Garlic Cook-Off, PO Box 2311, Gilroy 95021-2311 or via email to cl***@gi******************.com.

Submissions should be written in recipe form and include a photograph of the final dish. For more information, go to www.gilroygarlicfestival.com.

The eight finalists receive travel and lodging accommodations and the winner will receive $1,000 and a ceremonial crown of garlic, second place wins $750 and third place receives $500.
