An unidentified person fired numerous shots at people at the edge of a park in a residential area in north Gilroy, police said.
About 9 p.m. Monday, a vehicle drove by Rainbow Park, near the intersection of Mantelli Drive and Hirasaki Avenue, and one of the occupants of the vehicle shot at an undisclosed number of people in the park, police said. Nobody was injured in the shooting, but two cars were struck by bullets.
The apparent targets of the shooting did not have any gang ties, police said. Police did not disclose details about the targets or the vehicle or weapon used in the crime.
Police did interview a “large number” of witnesses, they said.
The area where the shooting took place is heavily residential, with two schools – Mount Madonna Continuation High School and Rod Kelley Elementary School – and many single- and multi-family houses nearby.
The drive-by ends a relative calm in Gilroy, with few violent incidents in the past month.
