The Santa Clara County Farm Bureau, in cooperation with American AgCredit, is offering $5,000 in scholarships for the Fall of 2014. The scholarships are for local high school seniors who plan to major in agriculture and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. Awards are based on scholastic achievement, career goals, leadership skills, community involvement, and accomplishments. To be considered for a scholarship, applications must include a completed scholarship form, transcripts, a personal statement, and two letters of recommendation. Applicants are interviewed by a committee of local farmers and ranchers and scholarship recipients will be notified by mail. Farm Bureau will make every effort to present scholarships at each school’s senior awards night and monetary awards will be mailed directly to the recipient’s college or university. Applications must be submitted to the Farm Bureau office by Monday, March 31. Applications must be typed and forms are available electronically by contacting Stacy Mariani at [email protected].
In addition, the Wineries of Santa Clara Valley offers a $1000 scholarship to any graduating high school senior who resides within Santa Clara County and is planning to attend an accredited four year college or university majoring in an agricultural related field, preferably with an emphasis in viticulture or enology. Scholarship candidates will be evaluated based on demonstrated scholastic ability, community involvement, demonstrated leadership, and determination to succeed. Applications must be received by Tuesday, April 15. If selected, you may be asked to interview at a date to be determined. For more information, please contact George Guglielmo at (408) 779-2145 and check out the Wineries of Santa Clara Valley scholarship application online.
