Ferol Marlatt died on Jan. 24, 2003 she was 87.

Born in Holtville, Ferol was a native Californian. Later she moved to Morgan Hill where she attended Live Oak High School. Ferol’s father, George Enney, worked for Sarah Winchester, as a carpenter and her mother Rachel Enney, was a midwife in Morgan Hill. Ferol moved to San Jose after high school graduation to attend San Jose State and study nursing. Her nursing career was not to be, she met and fell in love with Orvil Gipson after moving to San Jose. They were married three months after meeting. Together they had two daughters, Joanne and Charlene.

Orvil passed away after 23 years of marriage. Ferol then went to work as a bookkeeper. It was while she was working as a bookkeeper for Willow Glen Lumber Yard that she met her second husband, Carvil Marlatt. They were married for 22 years when he passed away. Ferol worked for 30 years both at Willow Glen Lumber Yard and Santora Electric.

Ferol was never idle. She was often referred to by her family as “Speedy Gonzales,” as she needed to be busy and most of all, helping others. She took care of her grandchildren, and was a devoted member of Unity Community Church. She even had the church services in her own home when, for a time, the church was seeking a new location.

Ferol was a loving, gentle woman devoted to her family. She believed that nothing was more important than family and created many family traditions and celebrations that brought her children and grandchildren together. Her traditions will be carried on.

She was adored by her family and is greatly missed.

Ferol is survived by daughters Joanne Moore (Gary Moore) and Charlene White (Brian White); grandchildren Dennis Gifford (Carol Gifford), Suzanne Rebelo (Len Rebelo), Rena Wyman (Jeff Wyman), Sean White and Joshua White; and five great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life was this morning, Jan. 31, at Unity Community Church, 2682 Union Ave., San Jose.

Private graveside services followed.
