It’s been awhile since you have heard from me, and I’m sad to say that this will be the last.
I have bled garlic ever since I arrived here nearly four years ago. The wonderful people of Gilroy welcomed this outsider from Long Island with open arms, and I embraced that by putting my heart and soul into every story I’ve written for The Dispatch.
I have so many fond memories that will stay with me for as long as I live. We had a great run together, but like they say, ‘All good things must come to an end.’
Don’t you fret, though. I leave this paper in good hands with reporter Brett Edgerton (the guy whose face is up top and to my left). He shares the same passion as I do. He knows it’s more than just stats and scores that tell the story.
In just the short time I’ve worked with him, I know that he will not let the community down one bit. Like myself, Edgerton has left his family and friends back East to pursue a career in journalism. I can only hope that the community embraces him as they did me.
Soon enough, you’ll be asking yourselves, ‘What was the other sports guy’s name?’
I just want to thank all the coaches, players, parents, administrators and my co-workers for making these past years some of the greatest in my life.
I thought about making a list of names, but that could go on forever and I would not want to leave anyone out.
I thought about recapping some game highlights I’ve watched from the sidelines, but there are just too many.
I’m really just at a loss for words.
Moving on was not an easy decision to make, but one that I feel I must take.
So I bid Gilroy a final farewell.
