DEAR EDITOR:

The headline on Monday’s Dispatch caught my attention: “GUSD must tighten belt by $800,000.”

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t the California Lottery supposed to end the financial problems for our public schools? It was introduced in 1985 as a way to support schools and generated $2 billion dollars of revenue in it’s first year. The percentage of money that our schools actually get is minuscule compared to how much is taken in.

Monday’s article said the governor wants taxpayers to pass a bond measure (just another form of taxes) to help bail out the educational financial crisis. Please VOTE NO!

If our elected officials are serious about fixing the public school system they should be able to think of something more creative than a bond measure.

Spending good money after bad is not the solution. Let’s tell them with our votes that we aren’t going to take it anymore!
