Flora Vica Alosi March 4, 1928 – August 27, 2012

Flora Vica Alosi passed away early Monday, August 27, 2012 in her Morgan Hill home of 45 years with family by her side. She was 84 years old.

Known as Vica, she was born March 4, 1928, in Motatei, Dolj, Romania to parents Elena and Dimitri Maciuca. Vica, who was one of seven children, immigrated with her family to Boston, Mass. In 1956. Two years later she married Sicilian Joseph Alosi and moved to his ranch in California.

Vica went on to bear three sons, a daughter and later became a grandmother to five children. But she was known as grandma to many others, having an open door policy, and acting much like old Morgan Hill’s unofficial “Godmother”. Vica had a calm and nurturing soul which made her a well loved person. Her maternal and matriarchal aura attracted neighbors and a network of friends that seemed to grow with the years.

Vica spent most of her life surrounded by people, and children playing in her yard. She regularly entertained guests at her kitchen table, even in her final days, sharing freshly canned jams and homemade cookies. Because of Vica, authentic old world recipes from Romania and Sicily for cooking, canning, and baking will live on through the many people she taught.

It is with great sadness that Vica’s spirit has departed to join her siblings and parents that preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband Joseph; sister Ana; children Anthony, Elena, Joseph and Albert; grandchildren Christina, Joseph, Garrett, Eric and Jessica.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 31, 2012, at 11:00 A.M. at Habing Family Funeral Home, 129 4th Street in Gilroy.
