Goldsmith Seeds and the Rotary Club of Gilroy, teamed up to sell flowers for charity and reached an all-time high. The one-day, five-hour sale raised about $50,000 – a 45 percent increase over the 2003 sale.

All the proceeds go toward scholarships, charity, Rotary’s leadership camp and Rotary International.

”People are excited to start gardening in Spring so the turnout is always incredible,” said Joel Goldsmith, President of Goldsmith Seeds. ”Many are repeat customers and look forward to this event every year due to the extensive plant selection and great prices.”

Eager customers lined up as early as 6:30 a.m. for the 8:00 a.m. sale to begin.

Goldsmith Seeds, headquartered in Gilroy, is one of the world’s largest wholesale breeder/suppliers of hybrid flower seed.

However, this successful global company which is family-owned and operated, never loses sight of their community.

Every Spring, for the past 41 years, Goldsmith Seeds has hosted an exclusive industry event, Spring Trials, at their greenhouse facility.

More than 1,000 guests, including growers, retailers, media, university professionals and seed brokers from all over the world come to see and learn about the latest and greatest flower varieties that will be introduced to the home garden market each year.

At the end of this 10-day sales event the public is invited to purchase these flowers, some of which gardeners have never seen before.

For the past 15 years, Goldsmith Seeds and Gilroy Rotary have co-hosted this enormous flower sale which raises thousands of dollars to help support local charities, non-profit organizations and schools.

Charities apply each year and are chosen by a committee within Rotary. Awards are given out each January.

Next year’s sale will be held April 16th, 2005, at Goldsmith Seeds, 2280 Hecker Pass Hwy.
