Dear Editor,

I met Jahaziel Casas on the first day of school my freshman year at Gilroy High. We went through all four years of being good friends, and I remember him being such a great guy.

Our senior year though I do remember a lump being on his shoulder, and I had asked about it, but it never crossed my mind to think it was a tumor or to simply say to go get it checked by a doctor. When I had found out he had testicular cancer, I was so heartbroken over what the doctors said regarding his survival chances. When I last spoke with him, he sounded so positive about life, and really appreciative of his family being there for him. He was more concerned with the fact that I had pneumonia the previous spring – more concerned about my health than his own.

I asked many people to keep him in their prayers, and they did. I will always remember his smile, his great attitude and the positive inspiration he was to many of his friends. Now he will impact the lives of other men to make sure to get checked when they think they possibly do not need to … my best wishes to his family and close friends.
