GHS at home tonight, CHS at Pajaro Valley on Saturday
It didn’t take long after last week’s 54-28 win against North Salinas for head coach Steven Lo to implore his GHS players to set aside distractions this week and focus on Alvarez, which is in town tonight at 7:30 p.m.

It’s homecoming at Gilroy High. But it’s all about football for the Mustangs.

“I think the kids are starting to understand what they have to do week in and week out,” Lo said.

It is the Tri-County Athletic League opener for Eagles (1-3 overall) , who are coming off of a 28-14 loss to Monte Vista Christian last week.

“At this point, we don’t really care who we play,” Lo said. “It’s about focusing on ourselves.”

Lo pointed out the Eagles’ speed at the skill positions and said once again it will come down to his defense’s execution.

“I called out our defense,” Lo said. “(Alvarez) has an offense that is similar to what we haven’t been able to stop yet. They are fast and talented. And they are humongous up front.”

n Christopher is looking to keep its clean record in tact against Pajaro Valley at Watsonville High School on Saturday night. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m.

“We worked our butts off all week,” head coach Tim Pierleoni said.

“We want to make sure the kids understand that nothing is for sure. They have the right attitude, and they will get after it Saturday night.”

It is the first of two straight road games for the Cougars who meet Monte Vista Christian next week.
