TENNIS: Alisal sweeps doubles play in 5-2 win over Christopher

For the second straight week, the Christopher High varsity football team held a Monterey Bay League opponent to a single touchdown.

The Cougars forced four turnovers and cashed a pair of those in for scores as the Cougars defeated Pajaro Valley 34-7 on Saturday night in Watsonville.

Dillon Babb forced a fumble in the Grizzlies’ end zone, which Mikey Pirnik recovered for one touchdown. Bryant Cid scooped up a fumble and returned it for the other.

The Cougars (5-0 overall, 2-0 Monterey Bay League led 13-0 at the end of the first quarter and 34-7 by the conclusion of the third.

Despite another stout defensive showing, the Cougars usually high-powered offense was staggered a bit due in part to an unusual amount of penalties.

“It was a tough one, we were a little bit sloppy as far as penalties go,” CHS head coach Tim Pierleoni said. “We had quite a few against us. I think, it was like 18 to three. It was ugly. I’d have to look at the film and tell you all of those It was a weird game because of that. But the kids kept their heads up and played through it. They played hard.”

The Cougars face a big test next week as the travel back to Watsonville to challenge Monte Vista Christian, which is also a clean 5-0 on the season.
