TENNIS: Alisal sweeps doubles play in 5-2 win over Christopher

Three years after the program’s inception, two weeks after earning a share of its first league title and two days after defeating crosstown rival Gilroy High in the second annual Severance Bowl, the Christopher High football team notched the No.1-seed into the Division III bracket of the Central Coast Section playoffs.

The Cougars (9-1) will host No. 8 Del Mar on Friday night at 7 p.m. in Garcia-Elder Sports Complex.

“Definitely where you want to be. We are on the right side of the bracket,” head coach Tim Pierleoni said, following Sunday’s seeding meeting. “But this is high school football, and it’s the playoffs, so anything can happen.

“It’s exciting and it shows all the hard work we’ve put in over the past three years.”

The rest of the DIII bracket and first round games.

No. 7 St. Ignatius at No. 2 Aptos, Friday at 7 p.m.
