CHS visits San Bruno to take on Capuchino on Saturday.
The start to the 2010 season for the Christopher High football program hasn’t been ideal. But with the merger of its JV and varsity squads this week, things may be pointed in the right direction heading into its nonleague matchup against Capuchino on Saturday.
“This has been without a doubt the best week of practice we have had,” head coach Tim Pierleoni said. “Now we can have a full practice where more kids can get more reps. Before, there was no way we were going to improve with just 16 guys at practice.”
The Cougars will still miss the services of a few key members for various reasons. However the difference this week is that Pierleoni and his staff have options to fill those voids.
Due to the natural gas explosion that rocked San Bruno last week, the Mustangs’ first game was cancelled, turning Saturday into their season opener.
Cougars’ quarterback Brandon Pickens, if his line gives him time, could have a breakout game. The junior has been consistent over the past two contests but more often than not, has had to hurry a number of throws under duress. Saturday’s matchup is scheduled for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
