GHS alum ‘excited’ for opportunity
Eric Vegas said he has missed hitting people since the Gilroy High football season came too an end back in November.

The recently graduated Vegas will rekindle some of those smash-mouth feelings when he dresses for the South at the 37th annual Charlie Wedemeyer Silicon Valley Youth Classic on Wednesday in San Jose. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at Spartan Stadium.

“I’m really excited,” Vegas said.

The Dispatch’s 2010-11 Male Senior Athlete of the Year, will be slotted into the middle linebacker role for Matt Kiesle’s (Piedmont Hills) South squad. The North is coached by Karriem Stinson of Harker.

Vegas, listed at 6-foot-1, 240 pounds on the official roster, was named First-Team All-Tri-County Athletic League on offense and defense following his senior campaign.
