After earning $20,000 for serving as Gavilan College’s interim president for one month earlier this year, Dr. Victor Krimsley is rejoining the community college staff as the new interim Vice President for Special Projects, a position the Board created specifically for him.
This time around, however, Krimsley’s four-month, $12,212 total salary ($3,053 monthly) will be picked up by the South Bay Regional Public Safety Training Consortium,” acting as a subcontractor, and has “no budgetary impact” on Gavilan.
The Consortium, otherwise known as The Academy, trains students for “an exciting and rewarding career in public safety” including jobs in the police, fire, probation or corrections professions. According to their website, The Academy trains approximately 1,900 students each year with professionals from more than 70 city and county agencies. They have nine locations on community college campuses, including one at Gavilan College in Gilroy.
During the next May 14 Gavilan School Board meeting, trustees are expected to approve the action item – which is recommended by President Steve Kinsella – of creating the position and hiring Krimsley to fill it. Krimsley intends to resign at the completion of the work, should he finish prior to the four-month time frame.
The agenda item details that “Gavilan College will be reimbursed for the full cost of the contract from South Bay Regional Public Safety Training Consortium.”
While previously filling in as the community college’s interim president, Krimsley worked with the Consortium and was asked by them to continue to do so.
Krimsley will be researching and writing a report, from The Academy to the chancellor’s office, on regulatory compliance, registration procedures and course descriptions at each of the nine colleges included in the Consortium, according to Gavilan’s Public Information Officer Jan Bernstein-Chargin. This will require coordinating among the nine California community colleges and the chancellor’s office, organizing meetings and collecting information prior to writing the report. Krimsley expects to have the project completed in mid-July.
