Dear Editor:

My name is Tracy O’Brien. I’m a Campbell resident and work at The Pet Spa in Los Gatos. I was wondering if perhaps you could help me with my current situation.

Last weekend, on July 4, I was visiting friends in Gilroy at their new grooming shop. My 6-year-old Shih Tzu, Macy, was with me. As best we can tell, at approximately 11 a.m., someone left the front gate of the shop open and Macy slipped out unnoticed. She was seen, however, just across the street by an attendant at a Valero gas station. He said he saw a woman in a maroon or burgundy colored car pull in to get gas. She was then alerted by children in her car to my dog. He saw her put Macy in the car and drive off, seemingly forgetting about purchasing gas after all. Macy is in a specialty haircut, not commonly seen on dogs, so he seemed to be positive it was my dog that she had.

I have not seen my sweet, beloved little dog since. I have filed a theft report with the Gilroy police. I have placed nearly 200 posters in the area (and several in surrounding areas). I have visited local shelters and faxed posters to those in then outlying areas. I’ve visited pet shops, groom shops, and vets in the area and mailed posters to others. I have placed ads in The Dispatch, the latter along with a photo. I’ve made a Web site(http://www.geocities.com/t_obrien79/findmacy.html) that has had over 400 hits, a cumulative result of postings on Craigslist.com and forwards to rescue organizations and shelters. I have a call into KNTV news, but have yet to hear back if they’re interested in doing a story. I’ve even called a pet psychic! And after a week, there has been no word, no calls, no e-mails. I fear that someone has her and is intending on keeping her.

Because it was a holiday weekend, and Gilroy is known for selling legal fireworks, there’s no telling if this woman that may have picked up Macy is a Gilroy resident or from a neighboring town. I am trying my best to inform as many people as possible and bring what happened to the attention of those in as many of those neighboring towns as possible, but the main focus is still on Gilroy.
