Gilroy – For the fourth consecutive year, Gilroy Unified School District is offering free meals to the community’s youth. Thanks to the program, dubbed “Seamless Summer Feeding,” all children up to 18 are invited to dine free at Glen View Elementary and South Valley Middle schools until July 21.

In August, when the Las Animas Elementary School dual immersion academy begins, free meals will also be served.

Alane Webb, GUSD director of food services, explained that the free meals help ensure that local children receive balanced meals year-round.

“We want to make sure that during the summertime they’re getting their breakfast and lunch as well,” she said.

Webb said the community has been very receptive to the program. The district mailed about 7,000 flyers to Gilroy homes and notices have run in the Dispatch.

“So, yeah, we’re getting a great return,” she said.

Breakfast will be served from 7:25am to 7:55am and lunch from noon to 12:30pm. All meals, which are provided through the federal free lunch program, must be consumed on campus.

Parents are welcome and may purchase breakfast for $1.25 and lunch for $2.25. South Valley is located at 385 IOOF Ave. and Glen View at 600 W. Eighth St.
