One unusual Friday night, with no plans on our calendar, my husband and I went to Sarah’s Vineyard for their Sunset Music Series. For $60 we enjoyed some of the finest pinot noir on the Central Coast, dinner and live music amidst an amazingly beautiful, 360-degree vista.
From an eclectic list of two dozen wines priced from $20 to $56 a bottle, we chose a 2014 Pinot Noir, Santa Cruz Mountains ($38). The inventory on this wine is low and we wanted to try it before it is sold out. Rated 91 points from The Wine Enthusiast magazine, this wine has plenty of tangy fruit, a touch of mint and mixed herbs.
A musical duo played easy rock tunes and the available menu options included a choice of a pulled pork sandwich with a side of coleslaw or grilled, ginger chicken on a bed of mixed greens. The earthiness of the pork was complemented by the fruit-forward pinot noir and the chicken paired nicely with the berry notes of the wine.
As the evening concluded, we left humming a Stevie Wonder tune. We vowed that next time we will bring our friends and sample more of Sarah’s award-winning wines—including the 2013 Pinot Noir Reserve—which recently earned 93 points and Editor’s Choice designation from The Wine Enthusiast ($56).
