Dear Editor,

St. Joseph’s Family Center would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Gilroy Garlic Festival Association for the generous donation of food we received after the Garlic Festival.

For many years, the Garlic Festival Association has given our organization the opportunity to share the abundance of excess food items with hundreds of low-income families in our community. We also utilized many of the perishable items to feed the homeless at the Lord’s Table.

St. Joseph’s food pantry is one of the largest in the county. However, in order to avoid any waste, we contacted our friends at Martha’s Kitchen in San Jose. Martha’s Kitchen provides delicious hot meals to at-risk, homeless individuals and the working poor. They also are able to prepare meals for a number of other community-based organizations in the county that do not have the facilities to do so themselves. Director Edita Cruz estimated that nearly 14,000 meals were prepared using the items from the Garlic Festival. The wonderful aromas and spirit of the festival was able to continue for days after the event!

We are indebted to the generosity of the Gilroy Garlic Festival Association, their staff and volunteers. We congratulate them on another successful event and we look forward to working with them again next year.

David Cox, Gilroy,

St. Joseph’s Family Center
