Dear Editor,

Integrity, trust, honesty and ethics in politics. These are some of the many characteristics that Councilman Craig Gartman and Dion Bracco hold. Last Saturday the Gilroy Dispatch blasted these individuals for doing nothing more than holding true to their campaign promises.

What was this issue? It was about maintaining fairness and equity at the bargaining table. Their opinions on this issue were made public prior to any independent campaign expenditures of the Gilroy Fire Fighters Political Action Committee.

What the Dispatch also failed to mention was that these were not the only two candidates, during our interviews that made campaign promises during the joint Police Officers Association and Gilroy Fire Fighters Association interviews. Candidates that we did not endorse also honored their word.

What does this mean? It means that fire fighters and police officers endorsed officials that we felt the citizens could trust. As they not only represent the values of the citizens of Gilroy, they represent the core values of police officers and fire fighters. These individuals listened to the concerns of their constituents and responded with a fair and open mind.

So all citizens should give three cheers to these elected officials. Leadership of this caliber is one of the qualities that make Gilroy a wonderful place to live and work.
