Gas line upgrade

Contractors for Pacific Gas & Electric Co. repave the area around a gas main on Monterey Street at Seventh on May 17, completing the replacement of a section of gas line through a block of Gilroy’s downtown. The work involved running a new plastic pipe in a section of older iron pipe, temporarily narrowing the city’s main street. A massive repaving project along 10 blocks of Monterey Street is to begin later this summer.
