The Gavilan College men’s basketball team picked up another ‘W’
in the Monterey Peninsula Tournament.
GILROY – The Gavilan College men’s basketball team picked up another ‘W’ in the Monterey Peninsula Tournament with Thursday’s opening 62-58 road victory over Sierra College.
Sophomore point guard Jimmy Herrera led all scorers with 15 points, while freshman forward Jody McAlpine added 14 points and freshman center Jimmy Cheatum netted nine points.
Freshman sharpshooter Erik Nelson – a Gilroy High grad – continued his improvement with eight points, and teammates Maurice Davis and Steve Silacci each scored seven points.
The Rams led 26-19 at the half.
Free throw shooting was key as Herrera went 6-of-8, Cheatum went 7-of-8, and Davis went 5-of-6 from the charity stripe.
After finishing up the tournament with games on Friday and Saturday, the Rams return home for a Dec. 11 game against Siskious at 5 p.m.
