Gavilan College library extends hours
Gilroy – The Gavilan College Library has extended its hours so that students and community members can take full advantage of their services.
The community college’s library reduced its hours in 2003 because of budget cuts, but because of growth enrollment and increases in funding, it will now be able to re-extend these hours. The library will now be open 8am to 8pm Monday through Thursday and 8am to 3pm on Fridays and available to the general public.
The library is located at the main campus of Gavilan college at 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd. in Gilroy.

McNerney pledges support for flood control
Morgan Hill – Congressman Jerry McNerney pledged to help shore up federal dollars for a long-delayed flood control project along Llagas Creek.
McNerney made the promise while attending a special Wednesday afternoon meeting of the Morgan Hill City Council, where he was briefed on the Llagas Creek Flood Protection Project, which affects more than 1,100 homes, 500 businesses and more than 1,300 acres of agricultural land in South County.
City officials hope the freshman congressman can be an asset in Washington, D.C. when it comes to pushing forward the stalled $105 million U.S. Corps of Engineering Project.
President George Bush’s proposed budget for the next fiscal year starting July 1 doesn’t include any funding for public works projects, an issue city officials hope McNerney can help resolve.
Coyote Creek bird walks continue in March
Morgan Hill – A series of bird walks led by Jane Haley, a National Park Service docent for 20 years and Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center volunteer, began in January at Coyote Creek, north of Morgan Hill, but others are planned.
Bird walks will be March 3 and March 31. Participants will have an opportunity to observe migratory birds as well as discover an appreciation of local birds, their habitat and ecological importance. Due to the terrain, these walks are not recommended for young children. The programs are free, space is limited and reservations are required.
