Volleyball Team Drops Two Close Matches; Looks for Home
Victory
Gilroy – The Gavilan women’s volleyball team lost two tight matches last week.
The Rams took Canada College to four games before succumbing 28-30, 21-30, 30-28, 23-30
“As a team, we had 109 digs in the match,” said Gavilan head coach Stephanie Pascucci. “We’re getting better and better and it’s just a matter of learning how to finish out a match and win.”
Leading Gavilan’s scrappy defense in that match were Heather Harms (23 digs) Siosianna Hoeft (22 digs) and Shanna Silveira (21 digs). The three players were also the match’s kill leaders. Silveira had nine kills, Harms had eight and Hoeft contributed five. Setter Malie Kaanapu spread around 31 assists and had three kills and 16 digs.
In Gavilan’s other match of the week, the team fell to Ohlone 29-31, 23-30, 26-30.
Kaanapu led the Rams in an all-around effort for 21 digs, 11 assists, four kills and three aces. Silveira contributed five kills while Nadine Gorena had 11 digs and an ace.
“We had every opportunity last week to win both games, but it’s hard to find the confidence as a team to win with the way the season has been going so far,” Pascucci said. “The girls are learning how to be confident in their abilities and are encouraged to continue to work hard and fight in every match.”

at Foothill Wednesday Nov. 2, 6:30pm
vs. West Valley Friday Nov. 4. at home, 6:30pm
