An Adam Kocina homer in the bottom of the fifth gave Gavilan the lead over Monterey Peninsula and the Rams wouldn’t give it back.
Gavilan escaped the Lobos, 4-3, Friday at home to improve to 10-16 on the season, 4-9 in conference play.
MPC drew first blood, scoring in the top of the second to take a 1-0 lead. Gavilan was unable to answer until the bottom of the fourth when Jake Conlan scored off a Javier Garcia double. Garcia made his way across the play after Andrew Bueno reached on an error, giving Gavilan a 2-1 lead.
The Lobos evened the score in the top of the fifth, but Kocina’s blast lifted Gavilan to a 3-1 lead. MPC scored once more in the bottom of the seventh, but the tie was quickly erased.
A Bueno single pushed Danny Guitterez across the plate for the final.
Gavilan will host Chabot (weather permitting) at 2:30 p.m. today.
