Gavilan and the College of San Mateo went back and forth Thursday before the Rams took control in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Rams posted three runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat College of San Mateo 6-3 at home.
With the game tied at 2-2 and John Foresteri and Bryant Cid on second and first, respectively, the Bulldogs mishandled a hit by Jalen Salazar, resulting in an error. That allowed Foresteri to come home and put Cid 90 feet from home plate.
Austin Garcia was brought in to pinch run for Salazar and Edgar Arriola singled to move him to third and score Cid, putting Gavilan up 4-2.
Tyler Slayday was hit by pitch and Nate Christophersen singled, loading the bases and scoring Garcia. That was all the Rams could muster up, however, and they jumped ahead 5-2.
The Bulldogs answered with a run in the top of the eighth, but their momentum was short lived.
Gavilan added another in the bottom of the eighth when Arriola singled to score Cid for the final.
The Rams got on the board early off an Arriola single that scored Foresteri in the bottom of the first. San Mateo scored the equalizer in the top of the fourth to tie the game at 1-1.
Gavilan regained the lead when Slayday reached on an error in the bottom of the fifth to score Foresteri, but the Bulldogs got it right back in the top sixth.
Arriola was a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate, with three RBIs and a walk. Cid went 3 for 4 with two runs and a triple. Foresteri went for 2 for 4 with three runs and a stolen base. Christophersen was 1 for 3 with an RBI.
Barron picked up his second win of the year, allowing three runs on four hits over eight innings. He struck out seven and walked three.
The Rams (7-3) will host San Francisco City at noon Saturday.
