GILROY—Life for the Coast Conference-South Champion Gavilan softball team keeps get sweeter.
Two Rams were named to the All-Northern California team while nine Rams earned All-Conference honors Monday. Gavilan was also honored as the NorCal Coaching Staff of the Year.
Gavilan ace Paige Miguel and utility player Priscilla Orona were named to the All-NorCal team in addition to earning 1st Team All-Coast Conference-South honors. Miguel racked up 21 wins this season for Gavilan and threw six shutouts. She had 132 strikeouts, averaging 5.47 per game and sported a .324 batting average at the plate. Miguel scored 30 runs and had 21 RBIs and nine stolen bases for the Rams. Orona sports a .412 average through 38 games this season. She scored 30 runs, has 21 RBIs and eight stolen bases.
Joining them with 1st Team All-Conference honors are former Gilroy High first baseman Adrianna Ortega, Kayla Medrano—an infielder from CHS— and catcher Kari Anna Bittle. Ortega has 35 RBIs and 24 runs through 38 games. Bittle hit four homeruns for Gavilan this season. She had 23 RBIs and 15 runs in addition to nine stolen bases. Medrano scored 21 runs for the Rams this season and drove in nine through 36 games. She has a .359 batting average in addition to eight stolen bases.
Second Team All-Coast Conference-South honors were awarded to Mari Rodriguez, the designated hitter from Christopher, Victoria Lobato, Kristen Dennis (outfielder from CHS) and Samantha Parraz—an infielder from Gilroy. Rodriguez boasts a .379 batting average through 34 games. She hits two homeruns, had 23 RBIs and scored 19 runs. Lobato drove in 12 RBIs and had 8 runs and two homers through 23 games. Parraz scored 18 runs and had 17 RBIs through 37 games for Gavilan. Dennis played in 28 games in which she scored five runs and had three RBIs.
Gavilan will host Ohlone College at 2 p.m. Saturday for Game 1 of the playoffs.
