Fremont – Short-handed Gavilan College rolled to its first Coast Conference win Friday as the Rams swept Ohlone College 30-12, 30-18, 30-24.

Playing without Jenny Fowles, who was away on a personal matter, and with limited contributions from Barbie Csore, who had a sprained ankle, Gavilan coach Stephanie Pascucci got major contributions from her entire squad.

Melissa Gaxiola, taking Csore’s spot, led the Rams with eight kills and 12 digs. Malie Ka’anapu had 23 assists and three aces.

“We played well for what we had, and everyone got a chance to play,” Pascucci said.

The win halted a 6-match losing streak for Gavilan (5-11 overall, 1-4 in CC). The road gets more difficult for the Rams, who visit conference-leading Cabrillo College at 6:30pm Wednesday.
