PACIFIC GROVE – The colorful ninth annual Pacific Grove Concours Auto Rally, which has raised more than $50,000 for non-profit organizations on the Monterey Peninsula, will be held on Friday, Aug. 15, 2003. The event takes place the same weekend as the 30TH annual Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races at Laguna Seca and Concours d’Elegance.

The auto rally is geared for people who own and drive their own vintage vehicles and sports cars. This year’s auto rally will feature Ford Cobra and Ford Mustang in celebration of “A Century of Ford Racing Heritage.”

The rally includes a vintage-car tour throughout the Monterey Peninsula, and an awards barbecue dinner at historic Chautauqua Hall in picturesque Pacific Grove. The Pacific Grove Concours Auto Rally usually draws between 250 and 275 participants with more than 6,000 people lining its route.

This event is a fundraiser for Pacific Grove Youth Action, Inc., which was started in 1993 by then-Mayor Jeanne Byrne. Throughout its first eight years, rally beneficiaries also have included the City of Carmel Police Youth Athletics Program and Pacific Grove Driver Training Scholarships. Pacific Grove Rotary is the rally organizer.

The Pacific Grove Concours Auto Rally will begin with a line-up on Lighthouse Avenue in Pacific Grove at 1 p.m. The Rally will start at 6:30 p.m. Vintage vehicles will follow a scenic route along the Pacific Grove shoreline through Pebble Beach – including a portion of the 17-Mile Drive – Carmel’s Ocean Avenue and Monterey on Pacific Street, to Cannery Row and then returning to Pacific Grove for a 7:30 p.m. awards dinner.

Additional information about the rally may be obtained by calling 831-647-6355 or visit the Web site at: www.pgautorally.com.
