Morgan Hill – Did you know the human stomach can hold up to four liters of food? Want to test your gastrointestinal might? Follow your nose down to the 15th annual Taste of Morgan Hill this weekend to find a gourmand’s feast put on by local restaurants, vintners and micro-breweries under the auspices of the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce.

Arts and crafts exhibits, live bands, and KidZone will offer some merry distraction in between plates.

The festivities start with the Kick-Off Street Dance today. The Joe Sharino Band will be rocking from 7-9pm, and Saturday and Sunday’s festivities, set to attract 55,000 people, will feature two additional stages of entertainment to choose from.

Surfabilly band Los High Tops will headline the event with their unique blend of rockabilly, surf and blues themes. The local band provided the music behind Hotwire.com’s most recent series of advertisements, currently airing throughout North America, but generally stays closer to home, playing in the South Bay area. They’ve also donated their time and talent for the good of the community.

You can try catching Los High Tops’ 1950s and ’60s inspired sounds on the radio. They’ve been featured on KFJC 89.7 and KKUP 91.5. But your best bet is to catch them at 4:15 pm on Saturday.

Shoppers can peruse 150 booths from local businesses, while kids can visit KidZone for hands-on demonstrations, kiddie rides and crafting fun. For gearheads, the Custom and Classic Car Show is back, and this year will also welcome the arrival of the South Valley Quilt Show, to be held at the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center at the south end of the festival.

Other exhibitors include the Historical Society, nonprofit and service groups, political parties and the city itself. Stop by the Morgan Hill Times booth to meet council and school board candidates as well.

Best of all, admission and parking are free for the six-block event, even for bike riders, who will get a free water bottle from Specialized Bicycles when they arrive. Vendors will be open from 10am-6pm both days and will extend along Monterey Road from Main St. to Dunne Ave.

For more information on the event or a list of sponsors, visit the Taste of Morgan Hill Web site at www.morganhill.org/tasteofmh/taste.htm, or contact Sunday Minnich, director of special events, by calling (408) 779-9444 or e-mailing [email protected].
