Dear Red Phone:

I’m going out of town and I don’t want to park my car at the airport the whole time I am gone. How can I get to the San Jose Airport from Gilroy without driving?

Red Phone:

Dear Park the Car:

It would be great if it were a little less of a hassle, but there is a way for you to use mass transit to get to your take-off point. Red Phone called the Santa Clara County Transportation Authority on this one. Taking Bus Route 68 – Gilroy Transit Center to San Jose Diridon Transit Center will get you to Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport. Here’s how you do it: Hop on the No. 68 at the Caltrain station in town and ride to the San Jose Diridon Station. There, board the Santa Teresa Light Rail route 901. It will say “Alum Rock to Santa Teresa.”

Get off at the Metro Airport station and catch bus No. 10, the VTA/SJC Airport Flyer at the Santa Clara Caltrain station. The bus fare is $1.75, the light rail fare is $1.75, and the Airport flyer is a free service that runs 5am to midnight. For more info go to www.vta.org or call 321-2300.

Dear Red Phone:

I am calling because I read the article about the concern about the increase in the population at the high school. I went to Anaheim High School and graduated in 1959. They were building a new high school for Anaheim at that time. But, they decided to keep us all together so that we could graduate.

It worked out fine because they split up into two shifts the way the students arrived at school and they had two different lunch hours.

Everything went fine. It was smoothly run. And I don’t see why there is such a flap about doing that at this time at Gilroy High School.

We all got to be together, 900 of us. And, I was in the W’s at that time, but It was worth it to stay with all my friends. I just wanted to pass that along.

Red Phone:

Dear Looking Back:

Thanks for your input. But remember that there are now 2,600 students at the high school. See “High School Swell,” Aug. 11 to read more on population density in the school district. Hey caller, why didn’t you send us a yearbook photo of the good ol’ days?
