Statewide Spring Cleanup
Sacramento – Caltrans and partners such as the California Highway Patrol launched an aggressive two-month spring debris and brush cleanup – from San Diego to Yreka.
During the next two months, Caltrans will be working statewide to remove debris and brush, which are fire dangers. The department is asking for the public’s help in keeping litter to a minimum.
Last year, the State of California spent more than $55 million tax dollars to pick up and dispose of trash tossed or dumped onto California’s roadways. Each year Caltrans works with hundreds of California Conservation Corps members statewide on vegetation control. On Caltrans property, workers clear a pathway of brush four to six feet from a highway’s edge to reduce the threat of fires from cigarettes.
