Gilroy – The Ghost is moving up in the material world. Gilroy’s own NABF featherweight champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero has moved up two spots in the new World Boxing Council ratings, and now sits in the No. 4 contender spot.
With a July fight at San Francisco’s Kezar Pavilion tentatively scheduled, Guerrero and his camp are marching right along for a WBC title showdown – perhaps as early as this year – with one of the fighters ahead of the Ghost in the rankings for 126-pounders.
These include WBC featherweight champion Injin Chi of South Korea, WBC international champ Osamanu Akaba of Ghana, American Rocky Juarez, Humberto Soto of Mexico and Briton Nicky Cook.
The WBA/IBF featherweight champion is Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico, and the WBO belt-holder is Scott Harrison of Great Britain.
Guerrero was named ‘Fighter of the Year’ by the North American Boxing Federation last week, in recognition for his capturing the NABF featherweight belt from Cesar Figueroa on Dec. 7, 2004 and successfully defending it on April 1 against Adrian Valdez.
