Gilroy – Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero can add another title to his already impressive resume – North American Boxing Federation Fighter of the Year.

The Garlic City boxer will be presented with the award at the 2005 NABF Convention later this month in Reno, Nev.

“He earned it by winning the (featherweight) title against (Cesar) Figueroa and defending it against (Adrian) Valdez,” said Guerrero’s publicist Mario Serrano. “Those back–to-back title defenses earned him that.”

The fact that both fights ended with knockouts on national television didn’t hurt either, Serrano said.

The Ghost will be at San Jose Civic Auditorium next Friday to support his friend and fellow fighter Jose Celaya as the Salinas welterweight takes on up–and–comer James “Spider” Webb (17–0, 14 knockouts). The bout will be featured on ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights.

On Saturday, May 14, Guerrero will be back in the Garlic City to make an appearance at Gilroy Bowl to raise money for Gilroy High Cal–Soap scholarships.
