SAN JOSE – The Gilroy Little League 12-year-old Softball All-Stars won the Section 5 Championship over the weekend, demolishing the Evergreen All-Stars in two games in San Jose.

Gilroy’s pitching staff never allowed Evergreen to get into either of the games, winning by scores of 11-0 on Saturday and 14-0 on Sunday.

Holly Lam pitched a perfect game on Saturday, striking out the 12 batters she faced. Lauren Castro continued the dominance from the rubber on Sunday by only allowing one hit and one walk.

“The girls really played well this weekend,” Manager Al Orosco said. “Holly’s perfect game – striking out all 12 batters – was very impressive.”

Offensively, the team was led by Mackenzie Mitchell, Nicole Green and Brittany Souza, who each recorded four hits over the weekend. Sam De La Torre has three hits in the second game, and Lam and Green scored four runs apiece.

Gilroy travels to Suisun Bay Friday to start the Division Championships.
