Gilroy Mustangs

Fresh off an outstanding performance at a tough Mid Cal Tournament, the Gilroy wrestling team kept the good times rolling with a dominate win at the Overfelt Classic over the weekend.
The Mustangs had 11 medalists, including 10 finalists and six champions.
And not just content with kicking over everyone’s sand castle at the beach, the Mustangs kicked sand in their faces too. In the 122-pound championship bout, it was Daniel Vascara battling Zef Oshiro, assuring Gilroy would get at least one title.
Fitting for an all Gilroy finale, it came down to the final round as Vascara won 3-2.
Nic Aguilar at 108 pounds set the tone with a pin in the first round against his Alvarez opponent.
Alex Felix at 134 pounds and David Aragon at 162 both won their bouts by pin in the second round.
Juan Villarreal at 154 and Noe Garcia at 197 both won their matches by decision, with Villarreal winning 5-2 and Garcia besting his man 9-3.
Taking second were John Fox (128), Melendez (140) and Joe Barnes (147).
Rounding out the day was Ryan Encincio at 184 taking seventh.
