DEAR EDITOR:
Much credit is due to Mr. Meeker at Gilroy High for sponsoring and supporting another night of great entertainment by outstanding student performers. Friday night a dedicated crowd braved the nasty weather to watch students rap, rhyme and dance on the stage – all to raise funds for much-needed improvements to the sound system in the theater.
Assisted by the Drama Club and various friends of the performers, we saw the next generation of lyricists and dancers entertain very well – Blaire’s “Since Day One” is a powerful statement about growing up male and non-white in America. Jason’s dedicated song to his mom and dad, and his energetic stage presence were totally fun.
Adding strongly to the group effort were the Soul Sistas, who are awesome dancers and made the whole show ROCK. These girls have a great future ahead of them.
Of course, there is my personal favorite, the “Mom” song by Peter and Blaire, but many other strong and wise-before-their-time performers added to it all.
GHS is producing some very talented performers, and we owe a large debt to Mr. Meeker also for the long hours and constant encouragement for all of his students – they rapped and danced their hearts out, and we loved it!
