Saturday’s 52-50 road victory over rival Hollister at San Benito
High.
GHS girls hoops edges Hollister, 52-50
HOLLISTER – The Gilroy High girls basketball team earned every bit of Saturday’s 52-50 road victory over rival Hollister at San Benito High.
The Lady Mustnags (1-1 in T-CAL, 12-7 overall) were led by senior guard Laura Hennessee (game-high 18 points) and junior center Sarah Hoeft (16 points).
Gilroy – which held a 14-13 first-quarter lead – was tied up by Hollister before the break and at the end of the third quarter. The Lady Mustangs, however, outscored Hollister 17-13 in the fourth quarter to seal its first T-CAL victory.
Senior guard Danell Dow finsihed with seven points, while senior guard Jenn Olvera netted six points.
The Lady Mustangs will continue league play Wednesday with a 7 p.m. home game against private power Notre Dame.
Lady kickers shut out by Live Oak, 8-0
MORGAN HILL – In a Saturday afternoon Tr-County Athletic League match-up, the Gilroy High girls soccer team suffered an 8-0 road loss to neighboring rival Live Oak.
The Lady Acorns (3-0-1 in T-CAL) were led by Michelle McDonald’s five-goal effort.
The Lady Mustangs (0-5 in T-CAL) will look to rebound with a Jan. 28 home game against Salinas at 5:30 p.m. in Mustang Stadium.
