VTA Announces Internal Transformation
Gilroy – Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority has announced the kickoff of an organizational transformation intended to improve efficiency and financial stability. The program, due to begin in July, is a response to the Hay Group’s March report criticizing the agency’s governance and financial practices. To implement the program, VTA hired Acting Chief Financial Officer Jerry G. Mikolajczyk, who expedited a state reimbursement of more than $150 million to the VTA more than three months ahead of schedule. The cash will allow VTA to retire Measure A bonds, reducing debt. The VTA also created a new position, Chief Silicon Valley Rapid Transit Program Officer, to oversee planning and development for the planned BART extension to Silicon Valley. The spot was filled by Carolyn Gonot, VTA’s Chief Development Officer since 2004.
