Acorns 77.5-51.5.
Gilroy High’s boys track and field team defeated Live Oak in a dual meet 89-31 Thursday while the girls fell just short to the Acorns 77.5-51.5. The defeat was partly due to not having a full squad in uniform yet and less kids trying out for the team this season, Gilroy coach Jeff Myers said.
“For some reason we don’t have the depth, but the kids we do have are doing a great job,” he added.
Of the standout performances from the afternoon, Myers said all of the boys’ sprinters and long-distance runners “did an outstanding job,” while the girls’ runners and jumpers showed promise that should come to fruition as the season progresses.
Peter Guenther was “off to a good start” in the hurdles according to coach Myers, while he said Sara Unadia could break a school-record in the high jump by the end of the season.
The team competed at the Willow Glen Invite Saturday, where Guenther set personal records in the and will face Salinas Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in the opening league dual meet.
