GILROY – A 21-year-old Gilroy man was arrested after he drove into three parked cars on Princevalle Street just before 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

Baltazar Cisneros Jr., of 870 El Cerrito Way, tried to drive away from the scene of the collision, a witness told police, but his Mazda sedan was too heavily damaged.

He and his passenger, both injured, then got out of the car and looked like they were about to run away, the witness reported, but neighbors surrounded them and held them until police arrived.

Cisneros reportedly told police he drank five beers before driving. He told the officers nothing else, however.

The wreck took place at Angela Court, where Princevalle makes an S-curve south of Tenth Street. A witness told police Cisneros was southbound at the time.

Police had no record of Cisneros’ injuries, but they said the passenger – a 19-year-old Gilroy male whose name police withheld – complained of chest and neck pain and had difficulty breathing.

Both were taken to Saint Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy. Cisneros was treated and released, according to hospital officials. Information on the passenger’s condition was not available.

Cisneros was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and hit-and-run, both enhanced to felonies since injuries were involved.

Cisneros was booked into Santa Clara County jail.
