GILROY—Firefighters battled a two-alarm blaze at Pacific Mobile Estates on 10th Street Tuesday morning when a mobile home fire destroyed a neighboring unit and damaged three others.
The 9:21 a.m. fire caused an estimated $200,000 in damages, according to Gilroy Fire Department Chief Alan Anderson.
Two residents of the home where the blaze started were treated for smoke inhalation by emergency medical personnel and one firefighter sustained a shoulder injury, Anderson said. Firefighters are investigating to determine the cause of the fire, he added.
When GFD engines arrived at the mobile home park at 500 10th St. they found one mobile home completely engulfed in fire that spread to a pickup truck parked in the adjoining garage. The fire had already started to burn three neighboring mobile homes when first responders arrived, according to Anderson.
GFD Division Chief Chris Weber rang the second alarm and summoned engines from the South Santa Clara County Fire District, Morgan Hill Fire Department and Calfire. The blaze was extinguished within an hour, Anderson said, and firefighters remained at the site into the late afternoon.
Fire officials called the American Red Cross to help find housing for the two residents who lived in the destroyed home. Others displaced by the fire found housing with local family members, Anderson said.
As of Thursday morning, more than $6,000 was raised to help Nick and Barb Rocchi, who lost everything in the blaze including their pickup truck, find new housing. They lost everything and did not have insurance, according to friends. “It will help them get into a new place and buy some of the necessities of setting up a new home,” said fundraiser creator Charlie Larson in an email.
