The Gilroy Museum received a Conservation Assessment Program
grant this month to hire a professional conservation assessor and
an architectural assessor. The program, which receives support from
a cooperative agreement between Heritage Preservation and the
federal Institute of Museum and Library Services, assists museums
by providing money for conservation and preservation specialists,
according to the Heritage Preservation.
The Gilroy Museum received a Conservation Assessment Program grant this month to hire a professional conservation assessor and an architectural assessor. Professional conservators will spend two days surveying the museum and three days writing reports that identify conservation priorities. Their advice will help the museum evaluate its collections care policies, procedures and environmental conditions.
The museum is one of 2,700 museums that have participated in the program in its 20-year history.
Gilroy Museum, 195 Fifth St., specializes in historic artifacts illustrating Gilroy’s past. It is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the first Saturday of each month.
