Jennie Costa, 96, died peacefully on December 8, 2008 in San Jose, CA. Jennie lived the majority of her life in Morgan Hill, CA where she was a homemaker and active member of the community. She attended San Martin Elementary School, Live Oak High School and Heald Business College. Jennie was married for 54 years to Andrew Costa who preceded her in death, as did her brother, Tony Bonino. She is the mother of Roger Costa of Cupertino and Janet Hebert (Paul) of San Jose, and the grandmother of Jill Costa, Todd Costa, Katie Gutierrez, and Jeff Gutierrez. Jennie Margaret Bonino was born on November 23, 1912 in Bingham, Utah. The Bonino family then soon moved to San Martin, California and there began a long history of farming which continues through the present. Jennie married Andrew Costa from another local farming family in 1940. Andy and Jennie's family business was the growing and processing of prunes, which they did for almost 40 years. As a wife, mother and active community volunteer, Jennie distinguished herself through years of dedicated service in the PTA, the Coyote and Pomona Granges, the Order of Eastern Star, the Morgan Hill Flower Lover's Club, the Others Club of San Martin, and a charter member of Women in Touch South County. Jennie was proud of her family and happiest when they were all gathered together for family events at her home. Her sweet disposition and ever-ready smile would brighten a room right up to the end of her long, exemplary life. Visitation will be on Monday, December 15, 2008 from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at Johnson Funeral Home, 17720 Monterey Street in Morgan Hill. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at 11:00 A.M., also at Johnson Funeral Home. Burial to follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Morgan Hill.
Speegle, Mildred Jane - 93, passed away peacefully at home in Morgan Hill, CA, on December 6, 2008. A graduate of San Jose High School in 1934, and resident of Morgan Hill since 1936. She was an an employee of Hart's dept. Store in San Jose, CA, and she loved her work in Food Service at Live Oak and PA Walsh with the Morgan Hill School District from 1958-1983. Mildred continued her love of children while working at Uesugi's Pumpkin Patch every October. In 1989, she was inducted into the Santa Clara Co. Softball Old-Timers 1930 Hall of Fame.
Beloved husband of Gertrude (Gertie) Mills for 54 years, Dennis was also a loving father to Terry (Tony) Ageno, Denise (Gregg) Boucher, and Debbie (Rick) Slater, a devoted grandfather to Leanne (Justin) Petersen, Sid Slater, Stephanie Ageno, Bryce Boucher, and Danielle Boucher, and a Great-grandfather to Skyler Gregg, Lilly Gregg, and Topher Petersen. Dennis was preceded in death by his daughter, Dana, and also leaves behind his step-father, Robert (Pat) Ryan.
Angie Avina Agnew, age 64, and a resident of Porterville, CA passed away, in Porterville, CA. She was born in Gilroy, CA to the late Miguel and Altagracia Avina and she graduated from Gilroy High School in 1961.
Melvin (Chuckie)Silva passed away as a result of an accident in San Jose, CA at the age of 64. Despite his disability which confined him to a wheelchair from an auto accident in 1967, he lived life to the fullest. He died from injuries sustained in an auto accident on Nov. 26th. He did not let his disability stop him from being independent, volunteering at the VA Hospital, contributing his time as a committee member for disabled veterans, participating in wheelchair sports (winning many medals and awards), and spending time with family and friends. He served his country for three years in the US Army, stationed in Germany, France and Turkey.
Wilbur "Will" Lenhert passed away December 5th after a couragous battle against cancer at the age of 78 . Will was born in Abilene, Kansas, and moved to Oregon, attended schools in Grants Pass, Oregon. Upon graduating from high school, he joined the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He came to Hollister in 1972 where he bought and ran the Foremost retail route while attending school at Gavilan College for Appliance Service repair technician. Upon receiving his certificate he went to work for Enterprise Electric Co. In 1996 he established Will's Appliance Service which he ran until November 2008. Will loved the out-of-doors, hunting, fishing and camping with his family. He especially loved the Sonora Pass region of Sierra Nevada. "Will was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church for 22 years. His strength and courage was and remains an inspiration to his family and friends.
Refugio (Cuca) Peralta, born in Lompoc, California, grew up in Mexicali, Mexico, where she lived until she moved to Gilroy in 1961 with her first husband, Eduardo Talamante and their children.
