Catalina Torres Casas passed away October 7, 2008 in Gilroy. She is survived by her children Mercedes Casas, Rafael and his wife Catalina Casas, Guadalupe and husband Anatolio Moran Casas, Raul Casas, Hortencia and her husband Irineo Casas de Santiago, and Hipolito Casas; grandchildren Rojelio, Lupe, Licha, Rafael Jr., Erika, Jessika, Janett, Ismael, Everardo, Yesenia, Jason, Erik, Kristal, Carlos Jr., Selina, and Jose Marcos; great grandchildren Daisy, Johnnie, Lilliana, Michael, Nathaniel. Vanessa, Javier, Kareli, Esmeralda, Jose, and Fermin.

Alma A. Reeves was born in Wellington, Texas.

Olga Elias

Passed away October 4, 2008. She is survived by her husband Jesus and daughters Cindy (Jesse) and Jessica (Angel), her son, Jesus, Jr., four grandchildren and God son, Sergio Perez. Services will be held at Oak Hill Funeral Home in San Jose, CA on Monday October 13, 2008 at 7:00 P.M. and burial will be on Tuesday October 14, 2008 at 11:30 A.M.

Elvira M. Cardoza

Elvira Manitto Cardoza passed away in Hollister on September 23rd at the age of 91 years. Elvira was born in San Juan Bautista to the late Fulton and Maria Manitto. She lived in San Benito County all her life; graduated from San Juan Grammar School and San Benito High School. Elvira was the beloved wife of Antone "Tony" Cardoza for a period of 63 years until he passed away May 23, 1999. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish; a charter member of the Y.L.I. of Hollister; a member of the Native Daughters of the Golden West, San Juan Parlor; the Grandmothers Club; and was one of the founding mothers of the Sacred Heart Mothers Club in 1943. She loved the out of doors, cooking and gardening. "She was a wonderful and loving mother and grandmother", said her children. Surviving are her son Clifford Cardoza and spouse Claudia of Hollister; daughter Nadine Miller and husband Lynn of Lincoln, CA; sister Eleanor Duplissie of San Juan Bautista; grandson Richard Miller, spouse Jeannie of Rocklin, CA; granddaughters Julie Scola, spouse Paul of Saratoga; Debra Papazian, spouse Tony of Salinas, Jeannie Flynn, spouse Scott of Louisville, KY; and Nicole Reading, spouse Cori of Loomis, CA. Elvira was the great-grandmother of Sierra and Sage Papazian; Hailey and Kyle Scola; Zachary and Sydney Flynn; Caleb Reading; Maximus, Julius, and Nicolas Miller. She leaves a sister-in-law Mary Vera and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Joe and Naomi Cardoza , nieces and nephews and many loving relatives and friends. She will be missed tremendously by all who knew her and will be forever be in our hearts. Visitation will be held at Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home on Thursday, Oct. 16th from 12 noon until 7:00 P.M. Family and friends will leave the mortuary on Friday at 11:30 A.M. for the Old Mission San Juan Bautista where a Mass of the Resurrection and a celebration of Elvira's life will commence at 12 Noon. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Hospice or N.G.D.W. San Juan Parlor c/o the funeral home chapel.

John Hamilton Khan

Missing his 100th birthday by only 8 days, Morgan Hill resident John H. Khan reluctantly settled into eternal rest Saturday morning, October 4, 2008, after suffering a sudden heart attack.

Teresa Filice

Teresa Filice passed away at her residence in Hollister October 5th with her loving family at her side. Teresa was a native of Piane Crati, Italy, who came to San Benito County in 1960 after spending three years in Canada.Teresa was a member of Sacred Heart Church; the Teamsters Local No. 890 of Salinas; a retired employee from the Hollister Cannery and Tri-Valley Foods. "She was a wonderful homemaker, a great cook, who loved her children and grandchildren, enjoyed raising her vegetables in her garden, and sharing her talents as an accomplished embroiderer by embroidering fine linens for peoples' weddings and other special occasions", said her family. She was the daughter of the late Eugenio and Agata Perelli Filice. Teresa's husband Luigi passed away in April of 1999. Surviving are her daughters Clara Crowe; Emma Davis, husband Charles, and Mary Righetti, husband Robert all of Hollister; six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren---with "two on the way", and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 8th from 12 noon until 7:00 P.M. at the Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home 870 San Benito St., Hollister. Family and friends will leave the mortuary Thursday morning at 9:30 A.M. for a Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church beginning at 10:00 A.M. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Bruce J. Finch who was born in July 1950 in Chicago, Illinois, died suddenly on October 5, 2008 in Gilroy, California. Bruce is survived by his beloved wife Carolyn Finch and their daughter, Sarah of Gilroy, CA.

Charlene Rice

Passed away in Turlock at the age of 75. She was born in St. Joe, Texas and lived in Hollister for 48 years, moving here from Salinas. She and her husband, Sam, were married in 1947 in Tulia, TX. Along with her husband, they pastored for many years at The Apostolic Full Gospel Church of Christ on Santa Ana Rd and she had a great love of gospel music.
