M. Marie Rey

M. Marie Rey passed away in Hollister at the age of 84. She was born in Hollister at the old Hazel Hawkins Hospital. She grew up in the Panoche area of San Benito County and attended Panoche School, San Benito High School, San Benito Jr. College and was a graduate of what is now San Jose State University. She taught in local elementary schools, was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Native Daughters of the Golden West and was a past president, the VFW Auxiliary and Bolado Park Golf Course Women's Club. She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Rey who died in 1987.

John was raised in Gilroy and graduated in 1962.

A memorial service will be held for Mabel on Friday 08/22/08, 2:00 P.M. at Johnson Funeral Home, 17720 Monterey Rd, Morgan Hill, CA. Mabel is survived by her brother Joe Garcia & his wife Liz; sister Della Gonzales; nephew Steve Garcia & his wife Rochelle, and nephew Julie Gonzales; nieces Lisa Jacobsen & her husband Bill, Karla Gayheart & her husband Greg, Roseanne Martinez, Terri Gonzales, & Mabel's special babies Sadie & Baby.

Adelaide Greco Castello

Adelaide (Adel) G. Castello passed away at 86 Monday afternoon in Hollister. Adel was born and raised in Campbell and moved to Hollister after her marriage to John Castello, Sept. 17, 1944. Member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Y.L.I., Alter Society, Grandmother's Club and Hazel Hawkins Hospital Auxiliary. Adel loved gardening, cooking and for many years worked along with her husband on the family ranch. Adel was predeceased by her husband, John in 1990, her daughter, Diane A. Sewell in 1976 and her son-in-law, Louis Avalli in 2002. She is survived by her daughter, Johnette Avalli of Hollister and son, Anthony John Castello of Fresno. Grandmother of Freddie Avalli of Denver, Francesca Avalli of Los Angeles, Lauren Marie Castello, Colin Anthony Castello and Victoria Diane Castello all of Fresno. Sister of Angela Garcia, husband, Pete, of Gilroy, Art Greco, wife, Shirley, of Salinas and the late Anthony Greco and Edna (Al) Losada. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Marten (Marty) Parrish

Marty Parrish passed away at his home August 16, 2008 at the age of 60 . He is survived by his father George A. Parrish of Gilroy his brother Jeff and wife Maryann Parrish of Walnut Creek, brother Tony and wife Teri Parrish of Petaluma, sister Heidi Franklin and fiance Richard Araujo of Gilroy and brother Scott Parrish of Salinas. Also survived by nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife Donna and mother Mavis M. Parrish.

Miquela Lin Quintana-Zimmerman

Born and raised in Gilroy, Ca. Wife of Robert Zimmerman, Loving mother to Mathias Zimmerman, daughter of John and Judy Quintana. Loved by many aunts, uncles,and cousins. Memorial Services Pending.

Eleanor Currie

Born in Boulder, Colorado, Eleanor was known to most as "The Doll Lady of Morgan Hill". She took a small doll collection (passed down to her from her mother) and over sixty years of collecting she turned it into what it is today--over 10,000 dolls. She purchased many of these dolls at the Morgan Hill Flea Market. She is survived by her husband, Donald, her son Don, her granddaughter CJ and family. Contributions in memory of Eleanor can be made to UCSF Children's Hospital Foundation, Box 45339, San Francisco, CA 94143-0339. Services were held Saturday 08/16/2008.

Louella M. Cotta

Louella M. Cotta passed away at her Hollister residence August 14th with her daughters at her side. Louella was a native of San Jose, attended Live Oak High School for her freshman and sophomore years and graduated from Gilroy High School upon completion of her junior and senior years. Louella worked as a beautician for over 25 years. She enjoyed social outings with her friends, working in her garden, cooking, and most importantly spending the last four years with her grandchildren Connor and Drew. "She was a wonderful Nana to her grandchildren", said her family. Louella is the daughter of Hazel Aruda of Gilroy and the late Joseph E. Aruda. She is survived by her daughters Tracey Freitas of Hollister and Tiffany Scatena, husband Fred of Hollister. Her twin sister Loretta Birmingham, husband Bert, of Gilroy; niece Kelly Whalen, husband Ted, nephew Jeff Whalen, and grand nephew Dustin Sousa.
