Dear Editor:
The facts Mr. Steve Baty are that police are not above the law and they do not walk on water. Look around you at what has happened in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York and Oakland. These accused men depended on a jury trial, were found guilty and later it was found that they were innocent! How many people are jailed because of trumped up charges by the police?
Facts are Mr. Baty when you go to a jury trial you take your fate in your own hands. You have to weigh it out – two years versus six years regardless if you are guilty or innocent. Maybe Gary didn’t have enough confidence in his first lawyer, only he knows why. I can tell you this Mr. Baty, my husband and I are very honest people and we were lied to from the beginning on how severely hurt our son was. When I went to the Gilroy Police Department with a lawyer, Gary was denied counsel, why?
As far as your friend Steve Morrow, let his conscience be his guide. The facts are Mr. Baty, Gary knows his responsibility and he will suffer the consequences. He will spend two years in jail for it. He has to live with the scars on his body that were left by the Gilroy police. He has to live waking up every night in cold sweats. He has to live with the severe pain in his back, caused by the blows he received courtesy of Gilroy police officers. He also has to live with severe headaches because of the blows to his head, again thanks to the Gilroy police officers.
You were correct in only one statement … you don’t know what happened because you weren’t there.
Answer this question: isn’t it true that a police officer is not allowed to hit a person above the waist, for fear of killing him?
Mr. Baty, we know a lot of fine officers in Gilroy and we respect them. But, in that barrel of apples, there are always a few rotten ones down at the bottom. If there is anyone in the Gilroy area that would like to discuss a similar situation, or a conflict with the Gilroy Police Department, please feel free to contact me.
