A man wanted by Gilroy Police for allegedly stabbing his mother-in-law in her bedroom was arrested last Wednesday by San Francisco Police after a standoff.
Justin  Skannal, 36, stabbed the 59-year-old victim several times at 7 a.m. on Dec. 8 in her apartment on the 800 block of Montecelli Drive, when she wouldn’t disclose the location of Skannal’s estranged wife, police said.
Police said Skannal forced his way into the residence and into the victim’s bedroom. The woman’s life was saved by emergency crews.
Gilroy Police had a $1 million warrant for his arrest and posted his picture on their Facebook page. Skannal is allegedly a Sacramento-area gang member with an extensive criminal history, including a prior conviction for making criminal threats toward his estranged wife, police said. He was on parole at the time of his arrest.
He was arrested shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday following a standoff at the Sunnydale public housing complex in the 100 block of Blythedale Avenue in San Francisco, according to a KRON-TV report.
Investigators learned Skannal was there and tried to contact him, KRON reported, but he threatened to harm himself and refused to come out. A tactical unit and crisis negotiators responded and he eventually surrendered without incident and was taken into custody.
