A Gilroy student is gaining recognition across the nation his tech-savvy approach to helping motorists save money at the gas pump.
Ninth-grade California Virtual Academies (CAVA) student Ali Zaidi won a national mobile app contest organized by K12 for his mobile app, Fuel+, which tells users just how much it costs behind the wheel.
About the app
Zaidi’s idea for Fuel+ came after the Gilroyan heard his parents discuss the rising costs of fuel in the Gilroy area.
He thought that a mobile application that could determine how much money their family was spending on fuel would be helpful to not just them, but others too, said Anne Heavey, for CAVA. It took Mohammed four months to design the build the app. The app is available to download for free on iOS devices.
Zaidi family
According to Heavey, the Zaidi family has three children enrolled in CAVA and enjoy the online school program because of its high-quality coursework and the flexible schedule it provides so their children can engage in other activities—like Zaidi’’s interest in computer science.
